Social distancing. Before a few weeks ago I never put those two words together, and now I am writing a blog post about it. Craziness. It is such an unusual time right now, and so much has changed in a few short weeks.
Our Work Life. My photography working hours have decreased. Normally, Trace spends 2-3 days during the week with his grandparents while I work from home/photograph sessions. With all the changes, Trace is staying home with me full-time, and I am now working while he naps or after he goes to bed at night. Photography sessions (maternity, newborn, family, and spring minis sessions) for April are currently postponed, and I am staying informed to see how COVID-19 unfolds before making any decisions for May. Births and Fresh 48 sessions are currently canceled until hospital restrictions are lifted. I paused my usual scheduled blog posts of sessions until life gets back to normal. It feels right to pause on client work especially as we navigate our new family schedule.
Charles started working from home about a week and a half ago, and it is something we are used to as a family. He generally works from home after hours and on the weekends normally. So, it wasn’t too much of a transition for us to have him at his office. Plus, Trace enjoys seeing daddy so much during the day!

How We Are Staying Busy. Let me begin by saying, if you are a mama with toddlers at home, check out @busytoddler on Instagram. She has great activities to keep your little one entertained. Trace LOVED the painting activities, the cheerio sensory activities (our dogs have loved those as well!), and legos in the tub (or a baby pool when it warms up). We are taking lots of walks during the day, playing outside as much as possible, and Trace has taken an interest in watching me cook. He has made pizza and baked cookies and loved playing with all the ingredients.
Our daily schedule looks something like this right now:
- 6:00 a.m. Trace Wakes
- 6:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. Breakfast/Walk Outside
- 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Indoor Play
- 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Nap/Snack
- 12:15 p.m. Lunch
- 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Indoor Play
- 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Nap/Snack
- 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. – Play Outside/Walk
- 6:00 p.m. Supper/Bedtime Routine
- 7:00 p.m. Bedtime
This is such an unusual time for so many families, and I know so many are trying to figure out how to make this new life work. I hope you and your family are transitioning well, and I’d love to hear how you are staying busy during this time!
Stay safe + healthy everyone!
XOXO – Ashley
