I am always looking for ways to challenge myself and understand more about photography. Whether that is learning a new technique or playing around with editing styles or researching a new piece of equipment, growing in photography is an important goal in my life.
One way that I was able to meet that goal last month was to photograph an Easter Egg Hunt with the Red Stick Moms Blog!
You may be wondering how this event taught me about photography…
As a photographer, each session I photograph is different. I enjoy photographing families and motherhood and candid moments for clients. My sessions are often an hour long that I spend one-on-one with families learning about how they love and how they interact for fun. I discuss the locations and the timing and the outfits. Each detail is thought out.
Photographing the Easter Egg Hunt was a different type of afternoon. In two hours, I photographed multiple families hoping to capture the most important moments to each of them. I had quick contact with clients, and I was always on my toes looking for the right moment to photograph.
I learned…
To think quickly on my feet that afternoon especially when creating the type of image I was envisioning. To use people to frame my images rather than greenery/trees (like I normally do). How unique each age group reacted especially with the hunt and the Easter Bunny. That even in events like this the ideas behind my posing still surface – focus on honesty and love and family.
Honesty. Love. Family.
Those are the driving forces behind my creativity. When I step behind the camera to photograph families, those words are what inspire my work. Even at an Easter Egg Hunt with many families joined together, those words are what I focused on to tell the story of that afternoon.
With Easter right around the corner, I am glad I enjoyed an afternoon photographing for families! A big THANK YOU to the Red Stick Moms Blog for giving me the opportunity to document their event!
