Dear South Louisiana,
I brag about you all time – how beautiful you are, how you are so full of life and culture, and how you are the reason I have such strong roots. I just wanted to thank you for all that you have done in my life and how you continually inspire me.
My People. You take care of them every day and especially the days that I can’t be there. That was the scariest part of leaving, as I was afraid my people would need me and that I would be letting them down by leaving. I know I am just a short car ride away, but it just isn’t the same as being across the street or down the block from everyone. You give them more than enough love and support and a listening ear whenever they need it. You allow me to chase my dreams, and I can’t thank you enough for that.
My Roots. They are deeply set in that muddy water next to a few cypress knees and a little bit of hanging moss. It is a beautiful view, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Occasionally I say the wrong word around here or maybe talk a little too fast or speak with a tiny accent. But, that is only because you raised me that way with your own unique language. Everyone loves it, and I think it adds a little character to my everyday life. You gave me a firm foundation in faith and love and family. It is because of you that I know regardless of who comes in my life, you always treat them like family. Thank you for passing on your hospitality to me.
My Inspiration. I drive your back roads any chance I can get. I love traveling over your bridges and your bayous and next to your sugar cane fields and fishing camps. You speak to my soul by slowing life down for just a few minutes and allowing me to break from the chaos of life. I treasure all my time that I have with you, and I pray that you are always protected and loved.
Sending you all my love,
A. Landry
Very powerfully, it comes from your soul!
Nice Ash.
Ash that was so touching. You are the BEST!
Ash, I love how the words flow with your thoughts. I feel a book could be in your future. I really never thought about Louisiana like that. Thanks!
Ash, that was awesome!!!
